Behind the One-Click Order

An order placed in one click arrives the next morning, and the speed feels like magic. What the button hides is a chain of work performed by people who are paid by the minute.

点一下下单，第二天早上就到，这种速度感觉像魔法。而这个按钮藏起来的，是一条由「按分钟计酬」的人撑起来的链条。

Warehouse staff walk several kilometres a day along aisles designed for machines. Delivery riders are measured by time, which quietly turns traffic lights into personal risks.

仓库员工每天要在为机器设计的通道里走好几公里。配送骑手被按时间考核，而这悄悄把每一个红绿灯变成了个人的风险。

The system is efficient precisely because each task has been reduced to something countable. Once a task is countable, it can be sped up, and once it is sped up, the people doing it must keep pace.

这套系统之所以高效，恰恰因为每项任务都被拆成了「可以计数」的东西。一旦可计数，就能被提速；一旦被提速，做事的人就必须跟上。

Consumers are not villains in this story, and neither are the companies that compete for them. Competition on speed leaves little room for anyone to slow down alone.

在这个故事里，消费者不是坏人，为他们竞争的公司也不是。在速度上竞争，意味着没有人有余地单独慢下来。

Recognising the chain does not mean refusing to order anything. It means knowing that convenience is not free, and asking who is paying the part of the bill we do not see.

看清这条链条，并不是说我们就不该下单了。它的意思是：要明白「方便」不是免费的，并去问一句 —— 我们看不见的那部分账单，是谁在付。
