A Sports Day to Remember
Our school sports day is held every October, and this year it fell on a bright and windy Friday. All the students gathered on the playground, wearing the colours of their own class.
I signed up for the four-hundred-metre race, even though I had never won anything before. On the starting line, my heart beat so fast that I could hear it in my ears.
When the whistle blew, I ran as hard as I could, but two runners passed me near the last corner. I finished third, and for a moment I felt disappointed.
Then my classmates ran over, shouting my name and waving their class flag. I suddenly understood that winning is not the only reason we take part.
