For three afternoons he held the back seat while I tried to keep my balance. Each time I fell, I stood up, brushed the dust off my knees, and tried again.
On the fourth day I rode ten metres alone before I noticed he had let go. I was so surprised that I forgot to turn, and I fell into a bush near the road.
We both laughed until our stomachs hurt, and then I tried one more time. Now I know that the moment you stop watching your feet is the moment you can really ride.
